How Much Does a Nanny Cost in Bangkok? 2026 Salary & Rate Guide

Nanny rates in Bangkok range from ฿12,000 a month on a Facebook group post to ฿60,000 through a premium expat agency for what looks like the same job. Most of that spread is not profit — it is who has been checked, who handles the payroll, and what happens when it goes wrong. This guide lays out the real 2026 numbers and what each price actually buys.

Full-time, live-out: ฿18,000–40,000 a month

This is the number most families are looking for. A Thai-speaking nanny working five to six days a week, eight to ten hours a day, hired directly, earns ฿18,000–30,000 a month in Bangkok in 2026. An English-speaking nanny, or one with newborn or special-needs experience, earns ฿25,000–40,000. Sukhumvit, Thonglor and Sathorn sit at the top of those bands; Ratchada, Lat Phrao and Bang Na at the bottom.

Add to that what direct hire does not include: social security contributions (5% of salary, capped), 13 public holidays, six days of annual leave after a year, and cover when the nanny is ill — which, with children in the house, is more often than you would think.

An agency-managed placement bundles all of that. CareRova's full-time live-out guide rate is ฿29,900 a month all-in: the nanny's pay and social security, our matching, contract and payroll, monthly check-ins, sick cover from a vetted nanny, and a free replacement within 90 days. Placement-only — we find, vet and trial, you employ directly — is a one-off fee of one month's rate.

Live-in: ฿2,000–4,000 less, with conditions

A live-in nanny is typically paid ฿2,000–4,000 a month less than the same nanny live-out, because the family provides a private room and meals. CareRova's live-in guide rate is ฿26,900 against ฿29,900 live-out.

The conditions matter more than the saving. Live-in works when there is a lockable private room, meals are genuinely provided, the working day is capped at ten hours, and there is one full day off a week that is actually off. Families with early school runs, late finishes, travel or a newborn get the most from it. Families who want the evening to themselves usually do better with live-out, even at the higher rate. Live-in vs live-out goes through the decision in detail.

Part-time: ฿12,000–20,000 a month

Three days a week, or every weekday for the after-school block, runs ฿12,000–20,000 a month direct hire. It is the most common arrangement in Ratchada, Lat Phrao and On Nut, where both parents work and the gap is 15:00 to 19:00. CareRova's part-time guide rate is ฿16,900 for three full days a week, all-in.

The catch with part-time is that good nannies want full-time work, so a three-day role either goes to someone building a week from two families — which we can arrange — or to someone who will leave when a full-time job appears. Say what you can offer honestly and price it fairly.

Short-term: per hour or per day

Short-term care is priced per booking, not per month:

Booking Vetted (agency) Unvetted (social media)
Evening sitter, per hour ฿400–600, 4-hour minimum ฿250–350
Full day (8 hours) ฿2,500–3,500 ฿1,500–2,000
Holiday nanny, 6 days ฿14,000–18,000 ฿9,000–12,000
Newborn night nanny, per night ฿3,500–5,000 ฿2,500–3,000

CareRova's short-term guide rates are ฿450 an hour and ฿2,900 a day for a nanny, with the sitter's police check, references and first-aid certificate in the confirmation message. The rates page shows all five engagements side by side.

What actually moves the rate

Experience is the thing families ask about and the thing that moves the rate least. What moves it:

  • Language. English fluency adds 15–25%. Fluent English plus another language — Mandarin, Japanese, French — adds more and takes longer to find.
  • Ages. A baby under one adds 10–20% over a school-age child, and newborn nights are a specialist rate.
  • Hours. A split shift around a school day (6:30–9:00 and 14:30–19:00) is harder to fill than a straight eight hours and is priced accordingly. Weekend hours add 20–30%.
  • Number of children. A second child adds around 10%; twins or a third child, more.
  • Extras. Cooking for the family, driving, homework help and light housekeeping each add a little. Ask for all four and you are hiring a household assistant, not a nanny.

Where the cheap hire goes wrong

A ฿12,000 nanny from a Facebook post has not had a police check, has references nobody called, and has no contract, so nobody is obliged to give notice. When it goes wrong — and the most common way it goes wrong is that she simply does not come back one Monday — you lose a month to chaos and start the search again.

The difference between that and a vetted, managed placement is about ฿8,000–10,000 a month, most of which is the nanny's own social security and leave. What the family is really paying for is the trial day, the checks, and someone to call on the Monday morning.

The cost of getting it right

Budget for a paid trial day at the daily short-term rate — it is deducted from your first month if you go ahead — and expect the search to take one to two weeks from brief to first day. The vetting guide covers what to check and how, whether you use an agency or do it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a full-time nanny in Bangkok per month?

In 2026, ฿18,000–30,000 a month for a Thai-speaking live-out nanny hired directly, and ฿25,000–40,000 for an English-speaking or newborn-specialist nanny. Agency-managed placements that include payroll, cover and a replacement guarantee run ฿27,000–35,000 all-in; CareRova's guide rate is ฿29,900.

How much does a babysitter cost per hour in Bangkok?

A vetted sitter with a police check and references costs ฿400–600 an hour with a four-hour minimum, so a typical evening is ฿1,800–2,400. Unvetted sitters from social media can be ฿250–350 an hour.

Is a live-in nanny cheaper?

Usually by ฿2,000–4,000 a month for the same person, because room and meals are provided. CareRova's live-in guide rate is ฿26,900 against ฿29,900 live-out. Live-in requires a private lockable room, meals, six working days with a full day off, and no more than ten working hours a day.
